Kimberly Kincaid starts off her new Pine Mountain series with Turn Up the Heat, a contemporary romance where the girl’s getaway to lick wounds and heals turns out to be the setting for our recently jilted character to find a chance at love.
Bellamy was intriguing, if occasionally she did annoy me with her immature behavior. Intelligent and snarky, with an ability to craft really clever one-liners, she is the recently dumped girl in need of a change of scene. Her two girlfriends, Jenna and Holly are crafted with a sense of fun, and the three together have some interesting moments and conversations. The road trip is just what the doctor ordered, even if they are stopped before their destination with car troubles.
Enter Shane, the one to look at Bellamy’s car and look more than once at Bellamy. Convinced that he doesn’t want entanglements, yet drawn to this city girl with the sharp tongue and giggly friends he can’t seem to stay away. Of course, the small town means that until Bellamy’s car is repaired, the ‘nightlife’ is limited, and they are bound to run into one another.
Both Bellamy and Shane have issues: Shane has a big secret that he is convinced has doomed his chances of love, and it is much simpler to ignore the attraction and push her away. If only he could. The flirtation and consummation are cleverly portrayed and steamy hot: although I’m all for the ‘in the moment’ moments, a car just isn’t the best setting for a steam filled encounter after you are an adult, but these two make it work.
There is tension, and when Shane’s secrets come out, a ton of angst. Bellamy needs to return to her real life and the city, and there are moments when I wondered if they would part on a bad note. But, everyone manages to overcome their issues and find a way to plan for more.

"It's not you."
There are only so many times a girl can hear those words before she believes that it is, in fact, very much her. Unexpectedly jilted by her locally famous boyfriend and haunted by a boss who makes Attila the Hun look like a lap dog, Bellamy Blake does what any self-respecting girl in her shoes would do. She rounds up her two best girlfriends and makes plans to get the hell out of Dodge.
But Bellamy's escape plan takes a nose dive on the side of rural route 164 when her transmission self-destructs, leaving her in the middle of a cell phone dead zone with nothing but her wits. Oh, and Shane Griffin, the hottest mechanic who's ever checked under her hood.
Yet this small-town man isn't all he seems. Can Shane and Bellamy prove that sometimes the most unlikely ingredients make the most deliciously sexy mix?
