Book Review:

My first introduction to this series and author, I picked up Tied on a whim, and am pleased that I did.  Told in the perspective of Drew, his narrative voice is solid and nuanced, with asides and information shared freely, and plenty of saucy references that made him feel playful and real.  Emma Chase gives us a solidly ‘male’ perspective through all of the events, and while I can’t pretend to know that everything was “correct” from a male pov as I’m not one, it certainly felt plausible.

As this is wrapping up the long-awaited wedding between Drew and Kate starts with a joint party in Las Vegas, rife with drama, antics, miscommunication and mischief.  It was everything that you would expect in a bachelor and bachelorette party in Vegas, with some decisions and actions dancing on the edge of deal breakers before the characters pulled themselves back to reality.

What stood out for me is the complete characters – there were no great twists or turns, but every character seemed to have a solidly developed persona and that worked well with the others in the story, in a clear sense of friendship and common bonds.  These characters enjoy one another, and have a sense of history and affection in their friendships.  The bond between Drew and Kate is palpable, you can see (and are reinforced with Drew’s thoughts) his affection for her, his desire and his enjoyment.  And Kate is just as besotted and reliant on her relationship with him.  Never perfectly smooth, those little bumps and misunderstandings that cause flare ups are fueled by and for their passion, and make the connection feel that much more real.

Chase has a deft hand in phrasing and combining thoughts that bring laughter and emotion directly to the reader, yet they feel so appropriate and apt for the characters that you have a sense of knowing them, and wanting to be in their circle.  Now I have to check out the start of this story just to see what I missed in terms of the relationship, the growth and the development of the bond that is so palpable here in this book.

In the fourth sexy romance by the New York Times bestselling author of Tangled and Twisted, Drew and Kate can’t wait to tie the knot—if they can survive the pre-wedding festivities.

For most of my life, I never imagined I’d get married. But Kate did the impossible: she changed me. I think we can all agree I was pretty frigging awesome before, but now I’m even better.

The road to this day wasn’t all rainbows and boners. There were mistakes and misunderstandings worthy of a Greek tragedy. But Kate and I made it through with our inexhaustible lust, boundless admiration, and everlasting love for one another intact.

That being said, there were some unexpected incidents in Vegas last weekend that could have been a problem. It was kind of... my final test.

I know what you’re thinking—what the hell did you do this time? Relax. Let’s not judge, or call for my castration, until you've heard the whole story.

And hold on tight, because you’re in for a wild ride. Did you expect anything less?
