My Tempting Highlander: Highland Hearts #3 by Maeve Greyson

Highland Hearts series returns to the blog today with the third installment from Maeve Greyson. Seriously Late in reviewing this title – apologies to all. But let’s get to the book, shall we

My Tempting Highlander

Mairi is a young woman determined that although her sisters have found love in the past, she will not be subject to the same fate. She doesn’t have anything against Highlanders in the specific, she’s just used to indoor plumbing, the internet and daily showers. But, her grandmother has long held other ideas for the girls, and a stray dog (that really isn’t stray, or a dog at all) proves to be her undoing.

Ronan was cursed long ago to live a half-life, alone without love or family unless the curse is broken. When he’s provided with the answer to lift the curse, he never expected he’d be traveling to convince a very recalcitrant woman to trust him, let alone love him.

I had issues with both of these characters, unfortunately. Ronan was very much of his time, with all of the associated baggage that entails. And, while I could understand his reluctance to share ALL his truth with Mairi, the continual withholding of information was frustrating – to me and Mairi. And for her part, KNOWNG her sister’s stories, she could have had far better reactions to discovering the truth about Ronan than just bemoaning her lot – constantly – to the point of whining about everything.

There was zero off with their chemistry, however, and while it was the one thing that did bring them together, it wasn’t enough for me to bring the couple to a resolution about the many issues facing them. A man of Ronan’s time is ill-equipped to deal with the rather forthright and self-reliant Mairi, and she’s far into the story before giving him any sort of breaks, deserved or not, as he struggles to find his footing.

While the story is engaging and clever, and the time travel is fun with clever descriptions, dialogue and revelations, this was my least favorite of the series to this point.

From the author of My Highland Bride—hailed by Sandy Blair as “an entertaining time-travel story packed with spice, humor, fantasy, and nonstop adventure”—comes a sensual novel featuring a wolf-shifting chieftain who travels centuries to modern-day Scotland to tame his one and only.

Cursed to live forever with neither wife nor child, Ronan Sutherland has watched all he cherishes turn to dust—more than once. For hundreds of years, he's been trapped behind the mists of Loch Ness, hoping to identify the one woman who is prophesied to break the spell. Now, at last, the fates have aligned, and he's being sent into the future to fetch her. After a single glimpse, Ronan knows he's been waiting all his life for this passionate woman.

Unlike her time-traveling sisters, Mairi Sinclair is perfectly content to remain in the present. As a hospital nurse in Edinburgh, she cherishes the opportunity to put her gift of healing powers to good use. But everything changes the morning a mysterious wolf darts in front of her car. Touching the wounded creature's tawny coat, a tingle surges through her. Yet when she returns with aid, Mairi is shocked to find instead a man with broad shoulders and fire in his eyes—a man who tempts her to unleash the animal within.
