Society’s Most Scandalous Viscount
The first I have read by this author, the third book in the series does have some background information required for a fuller understanding of the characters. Suffice it to say, these are two very damaged people, mostly from their parent’s individual actions, who find one another in a chance meeting on a beach.
Kell has a pair of parents who are overtly and passively dismissive of one another, and their affairs outside of marriage have become well-known scandal. Kell is both angered by and disgusted by their behavior, and he’s decided to make the most of the worst people think of him by remaining detached and aloof, doing as he wishes in every aspect of life as he chases amusement, but not truly getting attached to anyone or anything.
Angelica is visiting her grandmother for one final week before returning to enter the convent at her father’s behest. After the death of her mother, he retreated into religion and piety for comfort, and believes his daughter is best served by staying removed from society and it’s potential hurts.
I’d love to say that this story grabbed me and kept me reading on, but not having a real sense of Kell before this story that is very much his was a difficult obstacle to overcome. Additionally, the author’s writing style is flowery and overly verbose, bordering on ponderously weighty and this added to a remove from the story: too many words to discuss an idea or place without actually being useful words made this read feel far longer than it was. Perhaps had I the background on the character and some attachment to them that was built in earlier installments, I would have liked this better, but it just was another story, nothing terrible but nothing wonderful either.

When rules are made to be broken…
Viscount Kellaway may sound like a gentleman, but he doesn’t act like one. As far as Kell is concerned, drink, women and the wrong side of the law are much more attractive indulgences than could be found in polite society – much to the scandal of the ton.
With all of Brighton’s women to choose from, Kell has never settled for one – and his devilish good looks mean he’s never had to. But when he spies Angelica Curtis walking on the beach by moonlight, the living vision of a familiar dream, all that changes.
Suddenly, Kell finds himself craving the touch of a single woman…and it just so happens that the woman in question won’t have him! But if Kell’s bad ways have taught him anything, it’s that nothing is truly out of bounds…
