Snowflake Wishes: Echo Lake #0.5 by Maggie McGinnis

One of my guilty pleasures during the holidays is a day of Christmas movies of dubious quality on Lifetime or Hallmark channels. They drag out all the trite and tired clichés to make those ‘oh so perfect’ moments. Eventually.  But I can’t stop watching. Whether its the pseudo-familiarity or the guaranteed happy ending, they are addictive.  Today I have a new prequel novella that left me with that same break out the minted cocoa and hang a stocking by the fire moments.  Snowflake Wishes by Maggie McGinnis is the introduction to her Echo Lake Series.

Book Review

I love breaking into a new series, or a new to me author, and finding myself pleasantly surprised. In Snowflake wishes, a rather familiar second chance at romance trope forms the base on which this novella delivers on all counts.

Piper is happiest close to home (and on the ground), and living in the small town of Echo Lake fits her need for the familiar and secure. Years ago she and Noah had a relationship, but he was always chasing the next big adventure, and she couldn’t live with the uncertainty.

Noah has always wanted more: more adventure, more intrigue, more excitement. Returning to Echo Lake to check on an investment he’s wondering if it isn’t time for a change. And maybe, just maybe, he can finally purge Piper from his heart.

These two are adorable: neither ever really stopped loving the other, and while circumstances (and life choices) pulled them apart, neither has really moved on in the love department since they broke up years ago. The annual Christmas dance that pairs all the singles for a dance has resulted in more than one wedding over the years, and he’s more than thrilled to find Piper isn’t married or unavailable.

Banter, laughter and two utterly adorable characters only need a little time and a few tiny pushes to find themselves looking at the possibilities, and with the emotions and connection still strongly present it is time for some decisions.

Sweet, fluffy and fast paced, the story puts our two together and shows Noah that some things are worth staying still to experience. A wonderful introduction to the town of Echo Lake and the start of a new series.

Noah Drake was that guy--the one always on the lookout for his next adrenaline high, so it was no surprise when he took off across the world, seeking adventure as a travel writer. But one thing he could never escape was Piper Bellini, the girl who got away--the girl he let get away, a fact he's never let himself forget. When he returns to Echo Lake to see if there's any chance the flame between them can be rekindled, he never expects to spend the night holed up with Piper in a roadside diner while a blizzard rages outside. It's exactly the kind of situation that sent Piper running years ago. But this time, Noah may have been handed a Christmas miracle, and he intends to make all of his and Piper's wishes come true...
