The first I’ve read from Janice Maynard, this fourth installment in her Kilted Love series is lighthearted fun summer reading! Please read on for my review of

Scot on the Run

An agreement to house sit during her brother’s honeymoon brings Bella to Portree: expecting a quiet time with plenty of good views, quaint shops and time to read. More comfortable with her books and academic pursuits, the last thing really on her mind is love.

Ian, also more comfortable out of the spotlight and truly not comfortable with all of the kerfuffle surrounding his appearance on the most eligible list of Britain’s bachelors. He’s constantly finding paparazzi and fans around every corner, and when his friend Finley’s offer to stay in his house in Portree comes to mind – he runs for it. Only problem? Finley isn’t there, but his sister, Bella is.

These two are cute: there’s great interplay between them: they bicker and battle in a round-about flirting way. Both are intelligent and clever, neither is completely comfortable with their own social skills, or the whole idea of love, flirting and just general interactions. Much of the story is based in their back and forth – with Bella’s insecurities and discomfort much more prevalent as she is constantly on guard and attacking. It made her harder to empathize with, even as it was easy to understand her discomfort. Ian is wonderfully inappropriate – while he’s aware of his good looks, they are certainly not in his ‘game plan’ of dealing with Bella, he’s more of a foot in mouth guy when it comes to flirting. But, their connection is undeniable, their intelligence more than a match for interesting conversations and the twists and turns just show them both how much more they will enjoy life, together.

Cleverly plotted and sweet, the two characters make this a fun and lighthearted story with plenty of moments to ooh and ahh, several moments where a hand over mouth is called for, and ultimately, two characters who you can enjoy as they stumble toward a happy ending.
