Roger’s Bride: Sir Arthur’s Legacy #4 by Sarah Hegger
I’ve read each of the titles in the Sir Arthur’s Legacy by Sarah Hegger, and each book has brought more than the last: more dimension, more heart, and more story between the covers. Please read on for my review of
The fourth book in this medieval series features the very romantic Roger, heir to Anglesea. He’s always thought that a relationship is exactly what his parent’s had – loving and caring. So marrying for position and security of his lands is not of interest. But, he is a dutiful son, and will do what is required.
Kathryn is a daughter of Mandeville, and her parent’s marriage was not a happy one, and years of watching her mother suffer, she’s determined to not marry. Why bother when you know what you want, and have the skills to emulate the Viking Sheild maidens of old? She’s determined that nothing will convince her otherwise. When her sister, Mathilda meets her future husband in Roger, she’s completely aware that they have NOTHING in common – and she darts off to avoid it all. This leaves Kathryn in a peculiar position- she’s been offered up in her sister’s place.
These two are adorable and the connection and interplay between them is adorable. While she’s obviously not interested in Roger, he’s intrigued by everything about her. When they discuss her particular skills, he’s even more intrigued, and accepts her offer of finding a suitable bride – not her and not her sister. But, they both are determined to find the runaway Mathilda, and the two head off. Or Roger does, and Kathryn follows (unbeknownst to him).
Hegger’s writing skills have sharpened with each book: descriptions are evocative and lush, conversations are revealing and each character is built with care. Roger is adorable and sweet, wanting to make a real connection with Kathryn and hoping that somehow he can convice her that the two of them, together, are more than either could have hoped for. A wonderful set of twists, turns and plenty of heart are the highlights here and this series continues to get better each book I read.
