Book Review:

The first in a new romance series following elite firemen, Reburn by Anne Marsh sets the scene, and presents us with a new hero to drool over.  This fast-paced novella follows along with Sam, a firefighter with a unit tasked to keep forest fires under control. A terrorist is hiding out in his area, under his watch: and that just isn’t going to fly.  The FBI has been tasked with finding the terrorist, and one of the agents is Sam’s old flame: Olivia.  Years later, their spark is still viable and visible.

Chasing the terrorist puts them in close contact: even closer as the fire burning around them is threatening their lives, even as their own flame seeks to consume them in the past, with hopes for the future.

As a novella, the characters were decently developed, and the descriptive prose managed to bring the scenery alive.  Anne Marsh has succeeded in quickly relighting the flame between the two, as we see the dangers faced and tactics used by firefighters in the course of their work.  While I thought that the pacing occasionally slowed with more technical information, I enjoyed the introduction to the characters and their story, and want to see more.

Not every man knows how to put out a fire. Fewer know when to keep it burning…

Nobody messes with Sam Clayton—or his territory. The big bruising ranger is the last line of defense in forest infernos and he’ll go up against anyone who gets in the way of putting them out. Even the FBI tracking a terrorist through the heart of a blaze. But when Sam discovers the agent is ex-lover Olivia Albert, saving himself will be more dangerous than any fire he’s faced before…

Olivia needs Sam’s help to survive the heat, but when it comes to keeping her quarry from detonating a major strike, this Bureau agent is calling the shots. Except when Sam’s hard body and expert hands are reigniting a second chance that could be hot enough to burn forever

About Anne Marsh

I live in Northern California with my husband, two kids and four cats. After ten years of graduate school and too many degrees, I escaped to become a technical writer. When not planted firmly in front of the laptop translating Engineer into English, I enjoy gardening, running (even if it’s just to the 7-11 for slurpees), and reading books curled up with my kids. The best part of writing romance, however, is finally being able to answer the question: “So… what do you do with a PhD in Slavic Languages and Literatures?”
