From the very first paragraph “Carlie Hollis gulped in a lungful of air, keeping a wary eye on her attacker. He made a feint at her left side, but she was ready for him, deftly blocking the right side when his fist punched near her face. He launched a roundhouse kick, tagging her ribs with stinging pain. Faster than she thought possible, his foot angled high toward her head. Carlie dodged, but not fast enough.” Your attention is grabbed and through twists and turns it is held until the last words “And they lived happily ever after.” Nick pulled away and stared at Carlie, hoping she could see the love in his eyes. “And we certainly will.””
Carlie is someone who I would aspire to be, she has gone through so much but still always sees the good in people, and strives to help others. And yet she is so likeable and you can see why Nick who has been hardened by life would fall for her, she isn’t prissy or pious but so down to earth and natural.
Nick “was handsome, in a rugged sort of way with black hair and olive skin” can’t you just picture him, has never met anyone like Carlie and his heart is being torn, for the first time in his life he is feeling love and being loved yet he is also being told things about Carlie that he can hardly believe, will his heart or his head win out in this battle.
The story unfolds with great dexterity and you never know which way it’s going to go next, this is a wonderful example of a romantic suspense, some steamy romance mixed into a suspense story that has you guessing who is who and what are they up to, until all is finally revealed. This was one book that I found incredibly hard to put down as the plot and the characters will draw you in and not let you go.
