If you like Laugh Out Loud funny, set in a small town with plenty of heart and a touch of heat – look no further
If you want a book that is packed with characters that are both delightful and funny, are looking for something that is out of the ordinary, and a dash of alpha-male, this is the book for you.
In a small town in Scotland, two lingerie shops are struggling to keep their doors open. Rainne is a newcomer to town, having used her brother’s money to purchase Betty’s Knicker Emporium, a fixture in Invertary for many years. Kirsty is a local girl who became a well-known lingerie model until a crash and dishonest management took her career and her money. She too, started a lingerie shop, and has plans to design and sell her own line. When Lake arrives to fix Rainne’s business, and recoup his investment, sparks fly.
Lake and Kirsty have a palpable attraction, although both are invested in making their shop come out on top. When tactics more common to army war games are employed, both sides become increasingly desperate in their attempts to foil plans. Still, their attraction to one another burns hotter and hotter, until finally……
With a host of secondary characters that range from utterly barmy to delightful, a solid sense of the town’s coming together to support Kirsty, and taking on challenges, of all sorts, head on. With some incredibly sweet and steamy moments, and the start of a new romance with Rainne and Alastair that will be the focus of the next book, Invertary is the little town in Scotland to visit during their 2 weeks of summer in August.
Janet Elizabeth Henderson has crafted a sweet and fun story that is the perfect respite for a rainy afternoon. The characters are real, if some are eccentric, and are the sort of people that can be found in any small village over the world. This is a great start to a new series, and has encouraged me to read the author’s other books.

Englishman Lake Benson loaned his life savings to his dippy sister so that she could buy a shop. It was a big mistake. His sister has been steadily flushing his money down the drain - and now he wants it back. Years in the special forces taught Lake that if you want a job done, do it yourself. So he steps in to make the shop profitable, sell it and get his money back. The only problem is, the business is an underwear shop. And all Lake knows about underwear can be summed up in how fast he can unsnap a bra. To make matters worse, the tiny highland town already has a lingerie shop. A successful one, run by an ex-lingerie model. A very gorgeous ex-lingerie model, who's distracting him from his mission more than he'd like to admit. If Lake wants to get his savings back, and get out of Scotland, he only has one option - wipe out the competition.
Kirsty Campbell has spent years rebuilding her life after she woke up in hospital in Spain to find her body scarred, and her ex-fiance had run off with all her money. The last thing she needs is a cocky, English soldier-boy trying to ruin all she has left. Her home town is only too happy to help her fight the latest English invasion, although Lake is beginning to sway them with his sex appeal and cut price knickers. With the help of her mother, and the retired ladies of Knit or Die, Kirsty sets about making sure that her shop is the last one standing in Invertary.
It's Scotland versus England as you've never seen it before. It's lingerie war.
