What an utterly adorable story! Taking the friends to lovers scenario, and giving us a clear glimpse into the possible pitfalls and worries of the situation, Kristina Knight gives us two characters to enjoy and cheer for.
Lily is Hollywood elite: daughter of a successful producer and an actress in her own right, she grew up in Malibu with everything one could ask for: parents who were involved and driven, a twin brother to protect her and keep her safe, and the brains, drive and determination to make plans and stick to them.
Nate is Lily’s brother’s best friend and was a kid with none of the advantages that Lily had. A scholarship student in their district, he is smart and musically talented, but wholly convinced that relationships can only lead to ruin. Unfortunately the rock star life with plenty of willing women but nowhere to really call home is feeling rather empty. Especially when he sees Lily again, and the flame between them is anything but friendly.
This was so fun – the push-pull between these two who were so OBVIOUSLY in love with each other was really well-portrayed, mixing in the pressures of the Hollywood media machine and the tabloid paparazzi in their never-ending quest for the ‘next scoop’ feel as invasive to readers as it must be to those who have placed themselves in the spotlight.
Mixing in a great camaraderie and wonderful interactions between Nate and Lily, as well as the fun moments with Lily’s friend and brother all feel natural and realistic, conversations that you could easily see yourself participating in, or overhearing. And for those who appreciate some steam in their story, Knight brings some moments that will fog up your eReader and send you to in search of a cold drink on ice. A fun and solidly crafted romance that is far less about the character’s jobs and far more about their relationship and interactions.

Lily MacIntyre needs to shed her sitcom teen-queen image if she's going to carve out a real career in Hollywood. A tabloid-worthy fling with rocker Nate Lansford--her childhood friend and new cohost of a reality talent show--should do it. As long as she can accept that the notorious player will be moving on to the next eager conquest when the season wraps.
Long before Nate's hard-hearted image took hold, he and Lily were each other's protectors and allies. No one knows him the way she does--and he doesn't want his messed-up past to muddy up her potential. For once, the bad boy is trying to be good. Not easy when the good girl is getting wicked with him in the back of his limo and every white-hot kiss proves they can never be "just friends" again…
