Light My Fire: Dragon Kin #7 by G.A. Aiken

In the synopsis the ‘catch me’ line was “How could she not when I am just so damn charming?” Well, they were right – this story is damnably charming, and I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity at a new to me author.  Did I mention that I giggled, chuckled and even laughed out loud repeatedly? Please read on for my review of

Light My Fire

Elina Shestakova of the Black Bear Riders was sent to assassinate the Queen. Celyn was the one who discovered the plot and placed her in jail. Then he forgot her. For months.  Months.  Elina did little but stew and fret, determined to never forget the arrogant creature that put her there.

Celyn eventually remembers his oversight, and he discovers that he finds her intriguing: her standoffish, less than conciliatory attitude toward him, and the fact that she doesn’t recognize and compliment his awesomeness.  In fact, go by any group of second grade girls and boys, and you will see the levels of childishness these two descend to on their way to ‘battling it out’ in more adult ways. Celyn is soon in a tizzy, used to being the alpha in the relationship, his ego and his brain cannot wrap themselves around a human woman that is easily his equal in many ways, and who HATES to lose at anything.

Snarky, sexy, funny as all get out and completely engaging; these two are so damn adorable together – especially when they fight.  You never really know if they are going to be fighting or flirting, or some combination of the two – but everything leads to some steamy and erotic moments.

Secondary characters, family lines and enough additional adventure to keep the pace moving forward at a nice clip, this near 500 page book was hard to put down, unless I was wiping tears from laughing so hard.  I love the complex relationship dynamics, the humor, a difficult and often recalcitrant female characters and plenty of steamy hot moments this series and author are vaulting to the top of my TBR pile.

The trouble with humans is that they're far too sensitive. Forget you put a woman in the local jail for a few months - and she takes it so personally! And yet she is the one trying to assassinate the queen. And now I'm trapped with Elina Shestakova of the Black Bear Riders of the Midnight...gods! That endless name!

But what am I to do? I am Celyn the Charming with direct orders from my queen to protect this unforgiving female.

Even more shocking, this unforgiving female is completely unimpressed by me. How is that even possible? But I know what I want and, for the moment, I want her. And I'm sure that she, like all females, will learn to adore me. How could she not when I am just so damn charming?
