K’s Reading Corner Let’s talk! Currently Reading

Hello all from

K’s Reading Corner

First, I feel like a huge shout out and a very big thank you for hosting me and my ramblings.~

Secondly, you need to know I try to live by lists. Which means, you will be seeing them often!

Today’s List

  1. What I’m Currently Reading

  2. My Challenges this year

  3. What’s up this weekend?

I think I should get to the point at hand, and tell you what I’m reading right now! I am currently kind of reading 2 books.

How is that possible?

Book One:

Dark Lover by J.R. Ward

Dark Lover: Black Dagger Brotherhood #1
J.R. Ward

In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there’s a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing more than Wrath, the leader of The Black Dagger Brotherhood.

The only purebred vampire left on earth, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But, when one of his most trusted fighters is killed-leaving his half-breed daughter unaware of his existence or her fate-Wrath must usher her into the world of the undead-a world of sensuality beyond her wildest dreams.
I begun Dark Lover, because I needed to read something that will draw me in and not let me breath and a couple good friends (and fellow book lovers) recommended it to me. My Problem? I hate the bad guys with such ferocity, that I can’t go on until someone promises to me that the two guys I absolutely hate, will die a painful death, before the book is over! So I put the book down, until someone gives me that promise!

Which prompted me to pick up a different book. So, I chose Sashenka, again because a friend strongly recommended it.

Book Two:

Sashenka: A Novel Simon Sebag Montefiore

Sashenka: A Novel
Simon Sebag Montefiore

Winter 1916: St. Petersburg, Russia, is on the brink of revolution. Outside the Smolny Institute for Noble Girls, an English governess is waiting for her young charge to be released from school. But so are the Tsar’s secret police…

Beautiful and headstrong, Sashenka Zeitlin is just sixteen. As her mother parties with Rasputin and their dissolute friends, Sashenka slips into the frozen night to play her part in a dangerous game of conspiracy and seduction.

Twenty years on, Sashenka is married to a powerful, rising Red leader with whom she has two children. Around her people are disappearing, while in the secret world of the elite her own family is safe. But she’s about to embark on a forbidden love affair that will have devastating consequences.

Sashenka’s story lies hidden for half a century, until a young historian goes deep into Stalin’s private archives and uncovers a heartbreaking tale of betrayal and redemption, savage cruelty and unexpected heroism — and one woman forced to make an unbearable choice.

My problem with this is that I am not in the right frame of mind, to “travel” to such a time and touch the subjects that Sashenka touches.

Challenges:

Now, the fact I’ve put both of those books aside means I’m 3 books behind on my Goodreads Challenge! This year, I’m trying for 100 books. My only problem is that I tend to reread my favourites and rereads don’t count. (Insert pout here!)

Another challenge that I will try to tackle this year is from a local publisher (I live in Greece). I will try to read 6 crime books in 8 months! Not such a hardship for me.

My goals are simple, for the time being : read an arc during the weekend, finally finish those two books and, most importantly, start going through my unread paperbacks! It’s time to stop reading only ebooks and read the paperbacks that I keep hoarding!

So? What are you currently reading? Are you trying to tackle any challenges? Are you an ebook lover, or do you prefer the paperback?

Looking forward to your comments!
