Howler’s Night: Night #3 by Marie Hall

Wrapping up this 3 part series that is perfect for Halloween – I bring you Howler’s Night, book 3 of the Night series by Marie Hall.

Book Review:

OH My Giddy Auntie!  I don’t think that Pandora’s story has ever been more gripping, or more laden with potential consequence!  Marie Hall takes a darker spin again and gives us a Pandora we never before saw, and brings the long suffering Asher back into her life. This was such a twisty read, full of tension and worry for Pandora (clearly my favorite character in this story) as The Triad is subjecting her to all sorts of experiments / torture / brainwashing to clear her memories of who she is and what she loves.

Asher returns, never having stopped worrying or searching for her.  While we are ‘treated’ to the inhumane treatment of Pandora, we finally get to see Asher’s perspective and thoughts: his “Little Demon” engenders so much love and protectiveness within him that he will stop at near nothing to have her back.

But there are battles he never expected: Pandora is changed, dramatically, from the woman he knew.  He is convinced she still holds a part of herself within: and it alternates between heartbreaking and terrifying as he tries everything he knows, and a few things he doesn’t, to bring her back.

Completely engrossing, you can’t put this book down: You MUST know what happens next, and if they will be able to change The Triad’s plan for things.  Old characters return and we see more about their powers and purpose, and the loyalty that they show Pandora.  New characters make appearances, some longer and more crucial than others: Death and his pop-up roadside motorcycle club is a particular favorite, his attitude very much like one would expect, but the favors and bargains made for Pandora by Asher could be helps or hindrances as the story moves forward.

And it does move forward, after a slower and more torturous start from seeing Pandora’s pain to coming to learn more from Asher, the seeds are sown for a very action-packed and life-altering journey, full of dangers and puzzles.  And then, with some threads tied off in neat little bows, we aren’t quite finished yet, and the story ends.  Right at that place where you can’t bear to NOT know…..

Not normally a fan of cliffhangers, Hall does wrap enough ends up to make a satisfying ending, and you just know that more is to come, and you want it…NOW.  Fortunately, Marie is a prolific writer and we can expect that next installment before too long (fingers crossed).

This is a favorite series from an author who has captivated me with her imagination and unique twists on character tropes that I thought I knew.  Every introduction brings new revelations and perspectives, just what you want from each book you pick up.

The Priest was back. Her home was safe. And Pandora had even managed to secure a powerful ally in the Zombie Queen. But in one fell swoop none of it mattered. She’s been abducted by a secret organization known only as the Triad, and they’re conducting experiments, treating her like a lab rat: cutting her open, dissecting her, and keeping her hostage. And she’s slowly going mad. Her demons are asleep, and no one knows where to find her. She’s completely isolated, and the Triad mean to break her. But for what purpose? And to what end?

Desperate to get back to her life and the people she loves Pandora manages a miraculous escape... Or has she? All she knows is she's woken up in the woods, alone and terrified and with no memories of who she really is.

Only one thought keeps hammering away at her. The prophecy. A legend, that states Pandora is the key to unlocking Armageddon. The truth of who she is, of what the Triad has made her become, has been sealed in her memory banks. And if she can just remember, she knows she can stop whatever they've got planned.

"And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him..."

About Marie Hall

Marie Hall is a USA Today Bestselling author and has always held a dangerous fascination for creatures that go bump in the night. And mermaids. And of course fairies. Trolls. Unicorns. Shapeshifters. Vampires. Scottish brogues. Kilts. Beefy arms. Ummm... Bad boys! Especially the sexy ones.

Then the day came she realized apart from the sexy bad boy she married, there'd be no vampires/shapeshifters/mermaids/fairies/or even stinky trolls in her future unless she wrote about them. More often than not she can be found roaming the wild, lush tropical forest she calls her backyard (a.k.a. Hawaii) and day dreaming constantly about her latest project.
