Let me start with my abject apologies to the author – I’ve had this ARC for a while now, and really had not dug out of my immediate reads until now. And I am kicking myself for not having devoured this book and series sooner.
Have Gun, Will Travel
The first I have read from this series, Layla Wolfe has woven some of the characters that are familiar to readers of the Bent Zealots MC series, so some of the names are familiar in this and I found the story was engrossing and engaging, and without great confusion as to who was who.
In this story, one of the female hangers-on (Sweetbutts) was badly beaten and slashed and Bea, a friend of several of the girls, a landscape maven and former nun decides that retribution must be had, and organizes a hit on the perpetrator. Of course, they know just who they want to bring back to fulfill the contract: Sax.
Sax was exiled from the club and left to ride as a nomad. A man with a Harley, a sense of right and wrong and a sub in every state, Sax is one of the brothers who will show up when needed, even if his checking in is sporadic.
And of course, there wouldn’t be a book from Layla Wolfe without some major death-defying (or causing) action, plenty of foul-mouthed but mostly well-meaning men, lots of sex, hetero and other, and a neat dollop of BDSM that in this story, helps to bring hope back to Bea in the form of a sexy Dom who steals her heart but returns her confidence.
Several twists, turns, secondary characters and plenty of closure to several story lines bring answers to lingering questions and allow readers to check in on familiar favorites. These are not your sanitized, sweet and gentle stories: insets of action, dialogue and dubious legalities are freely mixed in with dirt, grime, danger and plenty of colorful language. A story that will have you cringing, squirming, laughing and worrying in equal measure: all wrapped up with a cloud of dust and plenty of memories. Just be aware that real, raw, rough and adult are keywords to remember when choosing this series.

The sun never sets on a Bare Bones patch.
Beatrix Hellman has reunited with her Bare Bones sweetbutt friends from high school. Her isolated life in a mountaintop convent has ground to a sudden halt, her faith dashed against the rocks. She needs something else to believe in, and her old friends become her new family. But a sadistic cartel associate of the club has maimed one of the whores. Bee and the women put a bounty on Tony Tormenta’s head. And they think they know just the man for the job.
Zane “Sax” Saxonberg is back from a different sort of exile. He was banished by his club Prez brother Leo a decade ago to ride the interstates of America as a nomad. Haunting back road BDSM clubs, Sax has a willing submissive in every state. He returns to the Bare Bones’ backyard to help the women and to check on his nephew Harte. Instead he finds a fiery slave in Bee—part camp counselor, part nun, part Force Me Queen.
Will Sax’s bold heroics renew Bee’s faith in the world? She finds control and strength in submitting to the virile bad boy biker. With each power exchange, she is brought closer to a fresh hope and conviction, but tracking down the brutal Tormenta also brings fresh danger as they close in on his mountaintop hideout.
Publisher’s Note: This is Book #5 in the Bare Bones MC series. This book is a stand-alone and can be read out of order, but the series is best read in order to gain the full experience. This is not your mother’s contemporary romance. Daring readers will encounter violence against women, rebel play, May/December age play, exhibitionism/voyeurism, spanking, your garden-variety bondage, and a HEA. It is not for the faint of heart. It’s a full length novel of 70,000 words with no cliffhanger. Recommended 18+ due to mature content and possible triggers.
