Book Review:
If you haven’t read any of the 1Night Stand series of contemporary erotica, you should give them a try. Quick light reads that are all about the one night: the sensuality, pleasure and connection between the characters. And since they are all created by different authors, each one has a particular flair and voice that gives a great bit-sized introduction to the author.
In Sabrina York’s Fierce, the story is given some clever background while providing characters that are both realistic and complete: obstacles, embarrassing friends and first time jitters included. In fact, I think everyone has a “Joy” in their life, that friend with great intentions yet no mute button when drinking: I know I have one or two of those.
Katie is having a girl’s weekend in Vegas, to celebrate her divorce. What her friend Joy knows, and we are to learn, is that Katie needs to find her groove. She didn’t have it to get back, not if Joy’s standards are anything to go by. Joy has graciously gifted Katie and her new-found resolution to swear off men a night with Madame Eve’s service.
Sebastian is the client, who actually was listening to some of Joy’s more outspoken revelations as the women were talking, and his interest in Katie only grew more intense the more he learned about her.
There is so much to love about this story: first the wounded and guarded characters, and their determination to be done with “relationships’ yet their realization that they are special together and fit perfectly. It is rare to have a short story that isn’t missing some character elements: but from conversation to interaction all the way through their chemistry: it is there for these two. Both arrive well defined yet wounded, in ways that every reader can relate to them. Their chemistry and their steam is evident and apparent, and really does give those moments of “ooh” to the reader. And, as a quick pick me up bedtime read – this ticks off all the boxes. Without losing what is her trademark humor in dialogue and setting, there are giggles, sighs and moments of inspiration to be had in this story.
