Even Vampires Get the Blues: Deadly Angels #6 by Sandra Hill

Here I go again, grabbing a series in the higher numbers!  That wasn’t a problem for me, and won’t be for you if you choose to start on Sandra Hill’s Deadly Angels series with this title,. Read on for my review and a couple of clever quotes…

Even Vampires Get the Blues

It wasn’t an issue to jump into this series at the sixth book, Sandra Hill took a few chapters to inform readers about the world, introduce our characters and give some history on the Vangels. A quite clever mash up of vampires, angels and Vikings.  Yes, those Vikings: the battle axe wielding, broadsword swinging, longboat riding buff, brave and alpha Norsemen. Harek is actually a wonderfully clever cross (for me) between Erik (True Blood), Rollo (Vikings) with a touch of Christopher Walken in Prophecy… minus the creepy bits.

Sentenced to this servitude as a Vangel for his sin of Greed, Harek is constantly butting heads with Michael (yes, the archangel) and flaunting the rules: usually landing him in Siberia to ‘cool his heels’, literally. Brilliant and charming, Harek’s particular talents are well suited to all things tech, and his greed extends to knowledge and mastery of everything new.  When he is tasked with a joint mission of Nigerian Special Forces, SEALs and his own Vangel team to roust a cell of Boko Haram.

Female WEAL Camille is a much vaunted member of her team, aside from her fighting skills and ability to function under pressure, her ability to blend into any crowd with a change to her appearance has earned her the nickname of Camo, and the respect of the SEALs at Coronado. If only her military career was as respected by her family….

These two have wonderful interactions: neither believing in relationships as possible for them, and the discomfiture is adorable.  Of course, bringing a Vangel to your family home for a wedding just before the big mission is recipe for disaster: a chocolate rose scented recipe.

Action, dialogue and some super steamy moments that have me pondering an “S Spot”, once I grabbed the flow of this story, I couldn’t put it down. What’s not to like? Hot men, a good v evil mission that works on multiple levels and some really intriguing cameo appearances from Harek’s brothers…I’ve got to go back to the start of this series and read them all.

New York Times bestselling author Sandra Hill delivers a sizzling new entry in her Deadly Angels series, as a Viking vangel's otherworldly mission teams him with a Navy SEAL who's more than his match— she's his predestined mate . . .
The fact that vampire angel Harek Sigurdsson was a Norseman in his mortal life doesn't make thawing out after exile in Siberia any easier. But things heat up when his search for evil Lucipires connects him with Camille Dumaine, a human who thrums with sensual energy that can mean only one thing: she's the mate Harek's been seeking for centuries . . .
The SEALs call her "Camo" for her ability to blend into a crowd—yet Harek's intense blue gaze singles Camille out like a white-hot spotlight. The security wiz was hired to help bring down a ruthless band of international kidnappers, but Camille senses an unspoken agenda—besides Harek's bold declaration that she's his "destiny." Just Camille's luck that the sexiest man she's ever met may also be . . . a vampire!

Quotes that Amused

“Viking Vampire Angel, that’s what you said. Ha, ha, ha. ‘I am Thor, hear me roar’. The
last she said in a fake male voice that sounded a little like Arnold Schwarzenegger in
The Terminator.”

“Then she asked, laughing again, ‘Do you sleep in a coffin or on a cloud?”
