Another day with BOTH books on the tour at the blog! Please join me with Vivienne Lorret’s lovely historical romance series Wallflower Weddings. This is a long tour that was recently extended, please be sure to check the other tour stops and don’t forget to enter the tour wide giveaway where two winners will win digital copies of BOTH Daring Miss Danvers and Winning Miss Wakefield by Vivienne Lorret.
A light and fluffy romance all based around the ‘fake engagement’ trope, Lorret manages to pen a capable story that is entertaining, if not demanding the reader to turn the pages to find out what happens.
Emma and Oliver are long-term acquaintances; she is the sister of his best friend. Currently in need of a wife to unlock his inheritance, Oliver decides that Emma is the perfect conspirator for his plan to access his money without committing to marriage.
Emma is sweet and a quietly determined sort of girl, even when her decisions are bad or impulsive, she usually makes them for all the right reasons. In her last season, she knows that the plan is ridiculous, but her heart won’t let her say no to him.
Despite Oliver’s rather mercenary start, he is kind and not looking to truly do harm, and when he starts to find himself falling for Emma, no one is more surprised than he. Sweet and predictable, the story manages to give both characters a HEA without causing undue scandal.
This was a fairly quick read despite the length, and it was not without a few issues: the characters weren’t undeveloped, but they were shallow and expected: neither had much to offer in terms of a surprise in emotion or reaction. And several missteps with language use, phrases that are wholly ‘American” and not English, and not used in Regency England would pull me from the story. The volumes of historic romance out there that DO take the time to be certain in word choice and use only made the gaffes that much more apparent. Still in all, I enjoyed the story and hope to see progression in character and style in the author’s future work.

It's all fun and games … until someone falls in love.
Oliver Goswick, Viscount Rathburn, needs money—and soon. With time ticking away and his inheritance held hostage until he's properly wed, Rathburn's slim options point to a single solution: a faux engagement. In need of the perfect bride, he knows of only one candidate: his best friend's wallflower sister. The plan seems flawless, except for one problem … He can't help falling in love with her.
Poised, polished Emma Danvers knows nothing good can come of Rathburn's scheme. Spending the next two months engaged in a mock courtship is not what she'd imagined for her final season. Yet, charmed by his roguish ways and the inexplicable hammering he causes in her heart, she accepts his challenge.
For Emma, keeping the secret seemed easy when it was just a game … But as Rathburn begins to see past her reserved exterior to the passionate woman within, the risk of losing her heart becomes all too real.
