The sixth book of the Psy-Changeling series is Branded by Fire and this is the book that actually made me realize just how big this series is.
Branded by Fire is one of the favourites in the series, not just for me, but for many readers too.
This is the story of Mercy and Riley. A woman with passion and a man that has learnt to keep everything in check since he was a pup. It’s the love story between the Wall (as Riley is his nickname) and a woman who can stand her ground. She is a sentinel, after all.
It is very impressing that Nalini Singh manages to keep the storyline moving forward. Even at Branded by Fire, no plot seems to be like a previous one. There are no similarities to the previous books. Whether we are checking the romantic plot or the suspense points.
Branded also presents us with another advantage as a series. It shows us how the suspense changes focus, yet it is justifiable.
Back to the characters. In this book we get to explore a bit more the Snow Dancers and their familial bonds. Riley is a category on his own, since he is clearly damaged by what happened to Brenna, during the first book. On the other hand, the cats are always a fascinating part of the sorties, since there feline characteristics make them very intriguing.
It is a very interesting book that shows more about the two packs and their interactions. No wonder why this couple is one of the favourites!
“One thing I’ve always wondered—why did you enter that bikini contest when you were a teenager?”
Her face flushed with a mixture of anger and embarrassment. “How far back did you trace me?”
“Far enough.” A pause. “You didn’t answer my question.”
“And you didn’t turn into a puff of smoke and disappear. The world is full of disappointments.”
