AudioBook Review No In Between: Inside Out #4 by Lisa Renee Jones
I’ve read this entire series – but now with access to the AudioBook versions I have been revisiting a series that I thoroughly enjoyed. If you’ve not read or listened to this series – I do suggest that you go back to start at the beginning: I will provide a reading order list, as well as the buy options for the series in print or audio. Now, welcome to my review of the AudioBook version of No In Between, book 4 in the Inside Out series by Lisa Renee Jones.
No In Between
One of my favorite contemporary series, Lisa Renee Jones returns will the fourth book in the Inside Out series, a contemporary romantic suspense series that is laden with emotion, sensuality and intrigue. While I’ve read all of the books in the series, this is my first chance to revisit the titles in AudioBook form.
Told in first person, each installment in this story brings a unique connection between reader and characters: Jones has developed and built the characters with flaws, faults and secrets that only serve to increase their humanity, and allows the characters to live in imagination.
No In Between is predominantly Sara’s story: the struggle as she faces her old fears and unsorted issues, proving to Chris that she is willing to stand by him in every situation, and dealing with the still unfolding tragedy that is Rebecca. After leaving Paris with some raw and very emotional scenes, they are back in San Francisco to deal with the legal questions and issues uncovered by the police in the investigation about Rebecca, dealing with the press, and her unwillingness to let Allure Gallery or Mark flounder in the meantime. Their relationship is becoming a character on its own: secrets, trials, battles and struggles around trust and honesty are constantly reappearing. Sara is, as Chris knows, a neophyte, and his guilt over Amber, over leading her down a dangerous path as well as his jealousy about Mark’s apparent hold on Sarah cause him to doubt her determination, and this battle will reoccur more often as the story winds to conclusion.
This is solidly a point in the series that EVERYONE deserves a break, but the tension continues to build, and readers will be on the edge of their seats hoping for answers (a few arrive) and wanting to see happiness for the characters (there are flashes).
The majority of the narration for this book is provided by Grace Grant. As Sara, she captures the unique mix that is tentative forward motion balanced with a spine of steel that is so very Sara, even when she isn’t feeling certain. A born submissive, Sara’s approach is far more cerebral where her reactions are concerned, she wants to ferret out the why’s and find some piece of the other person that needs her understanding, her kindness and her empathy. And while Sara may have that whole “save the broken” vibe, which in many ways got her into this current mess, she’s amazingly astute in most situations. I loved her performance, nuanced and carefully enunciated to retell the story, without over-acting on voices other than Sara’s. Jason Carpenter is the narrator for the epilogue – and OH WHAT an epilogue, adding yet another layer of subterfuge into the story and setting up some seriously twisted moments!
A not to be missed story, the AudioBook version adds to the series, lulling the listener into the world occupied by Chris, Sara, Mark and the others, and adding emotional impact to scenes that brought tears and shivers in the written version.

About the Book:
The fourth in the Inside Out erotic romance series by New York Times bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones, this steamy novel resolves Chris and Sarah's relationship and leads into Mark's story.
"Chris and I have faced our demons and bared our souls to one another in Paris. Now that we are back home in San Francisco, I want to believe that nothing can tear us apart. Not Ava’s accusations against me to the police, or Chris's fear that he will destroy me as he feels he did Amber. And not Mark, who was once too intimately a part of our lives, and who I can see crumbling inside out. He believes he is invincible, just as I want to believe Chris and I are invincible. We have to be invincible. We need each other too much for any other ending."
