I had been waiting for this book from Nalini Singh since Blade came out. The tenth in the Guild Hunter series did not disappoint! Please read on for my review of
This is the first book in this series that takes place at the same time as another full-length novel.
It was a very nice surprise to see Holly maturing and in better control of herself. Somewhat.
Venom, on the other hand, is still his very charming and mysterious self.
I enjoyed seeing the depth and growth of these two characters as well as the bonds with those around them.
New Yorkers are now an integral part of the city. Though there are always dangers, the city looks like it is bonding too, especially with the Tower.
I liked the descriptions and the intensity brought to the book, keeping everything moving forward. What I did not like was the ongoing mystery and questions I needed answered from the previous book.
Let’s hope for the next one to carry more answers and continued engagement…
“It’s all true.” Venom’s hair lifted up in the wind coming through his open window, his profile so astonishingly perfect that her breath caught for a second. “I’m deadlier than the deadliest snake in the world, with the ability to impact strong immortals. But you’re not too far behind.”
“Try being used as a chew toy by an insane archangel,” Holly said with a grim smile. “It does wonders for your poison, I hear.”

Enter New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh’s breathtakingly passionate Guild Hunter world with the story of a woman who isn’t a vampire or an angel…or human…
Once a broken girl known as Sorrow, Holly Chang now prowls the shadowy gray underground of the city for the angels. But it’s not her winged allies who make her a wanted woman—it’s the unknown power coursing through her veins. Brutalized by an insane archangel, she was left with the bloodlust of a vampire, the ability to mesmerize her prey, and a poisonous bite.
Now, someone has put a bounty on her head…
Venom is one of the Seven, Archangel Raphael’s private guard, and he’s as infuriating as he is seductive. A centuries-old vampire, his fangs dispense a poison deadlier than Holly’s. But even if Venom can protect Holly from those hunting her, he might not be able to save himself—because the strange, violent power inside Holly is awakening…
No one is safe.
