Jennifer Probst returns to the blog today with the second in her Billionaire Builders series, and it’s Dalton Pierce’s story! Narrated by Madeline Maby and Sebastian York, please read on for my review of the audiobook for
Any Time, Any Place
Dalton Pierce is the youngest, but far from the last brother you’d notice, with a way of working the word, the element or the metaphor wood into many of his conversations. He’s adorable and charming, perhaps a bit too, as he also seems to run through women pretty quickly. But, since the first book, he’s had his eye on the new bartender/owner of the town’s bar, Raven.
Raven left town when her Father died in an automobile crash with his (unknown to the family) lover, suitcases and tickets to Paris.. Totally devastated and angry – she isn’t really over the event, although she’s tried to put all thoughts of her family in the past. Now working the bar and making her own way in the world, and trying to ignore the attraction she has to Dalton, a daily customer at the bar.
These two are adorable together: banter and sparks fly everywhere, and you wonder just how badly the secrets of the past will haunt them. Both Raven and Dalton need to grow up a bit; which will involve their sharing their pasts and actually making the effort to trust in one another. While you can’t help but see that they are wonderful together, and laugh at their banter, there are some points of the story that make you want to bounce their heads together. But, it’s worth the journey…trust me on this. Secondary characters add light, laughter and some much needed common sense interventions, and continue to see the strength of community in the story, even as hints are dropped for the next.
Narration for this story is provided by Madeline Maby and Sebastian York. And, I’ll admit that I’m not a particular fan of Maby’s work, in this story, she does capture the voice of Raven fairly well, but the emotional context and rapid-fire one-liners seemed to escape her. Contrast this with Sebastian York, whose performance was stellar, never missing an inflection, a moment to expand the emotion and modulate for quiet moments or laughs, there was an unevenness in the performances that was definitely noticeable, and occasionally distracting. Still, I enjoyed the story and the characters, and found that even with the story not being as “HGTV” as the first, it was intriguing and engaging.

When she was a teen, Raven Bella Stratton’s father was killed in a horrible car crash. The bigger shock was the discovery of a woman with him—Diana Pierce—and their two fully packed suitcases with airline tickets to Paris. Devastated by her father’s betrayal, Raven went to live with her aunt, never truly overcoming the traumatic event. When she discovers that the mysterious woman had a family with a husband and three boys, Raven vows to leave the memory of her father behind.
Until Dalton Pierce visits one night and suddenly her past challenges her future...
Leaving his life in California behind to run Pierce Construction with his two older brothers, Dalton Pierce has enjoyed returning home and studying his passion of woodworking. But when he visits the local bar with his brothers one evening, he’s immediately drawn to the smart-mouthed, badass, sexy bartender who sets his body on fire. Unfortunately, she doesn’t seem as intrigued by him, and his multiple advances are met with rejection. When he offers to restore the bar back to its original glory, he begins to work with her on a daily basis, and falls harder. His plan of seduction slowly weaves a web around them both, until they are caught up in the spell. But Dalton doesn’t know the secret that can either destroy them both...or finally mend two broken hearts.
