A Single Kiss: Sweetest Kisses #1 by Grace Burrowes

A Single Kiss

I’m a huge fan of single mom’s doing what they need to do to make life better for themselves and their children, and particularly when it is done well. In this first installment of the Sweetest Kisses series, Grace Burrows introduces us to Hannah, a lawyer who decided that corporate law would be the best specialization, allowing her time with her daughter Grace, while paying the bills. What she didn’t realize is the new job and opportunity mean that she will have to work in the Family Law division to ‘prove herself’ for the new firm, before moving into the corporate division. Not something she wanted.

Heading the Family law division is Trent. He’s friendly and open with Hannah, but early on there is a clear attraction that neither is willing to explore.  As they start to delve into the cases, Hannah’s own personal experience with Family court from a traumatic childhood both aid and inhibit her competency.  She’s on edge, saddened by what she sees, and is constantly worried about her parenting skills where Grace is concerned: the family court cases are bringing up her own experiences, and she isn’t handling it all that well.

Trent is wonderful: caring, compassionate and steady, he slowly is drawing her out and the attraction is sparking, While Hannah’s work is solid, her rather pessimistic option in the power of the court is the only stumbling block in their relationship above and beyond the ‘no dating work colleagues”. As the story goes on, and Hannah and Trent become closer, Hannah’s worries about Grace seem to increase and one can’t help but wonder if something is threatening them.  Trent’s refusal to allow Hannah to retreat and push him away, steadily moving forward to something more is heartwarming, and their relationship is a steady progression forward even when there are setbacks

Full of heart and emotion, Burrows has opened up a view on a life that feels so real and honest that you can’t turn away, even if you wanted to.

A single kiss can change everything...

In the first novel of the Sweetest Kisses series, Hannah Stark has set her sights on corporate law to assure her a career of paperwork, predictability, and conservative suits. Contracts, finance, and the art of the deal sing to her, while the mess and misery of the courtroom do not. But her daughter needs to eat, so when Hannah is offered a temporary position in a small town firm's domestic relations department, she reluctantly accepts.

Trent Knightley is mightily drawn to his newest associate, though Hannah is as protective of her privacy as she is competent. When their friendship and attraction heat up, Hannah's secrets put her heart and Trent's hopes in double jeopardy.
