Focused and unassuming fifth generation cider-maker Sanna Lund has one desire: to live a simple, quiet life on her family’s apple orchard in Door County, Wisconsin. Although her business is struggling, Sanna remains fiercely devoted to the orchard, despite her brother’s attempts to convince their aging father to sell the land.

Single dad Isaac Banks has spent years trying to shield his son Sebastian from his troubled mother. Fleeing heartbreak at home, Isaac packed up their lives and the two headed out on an adventure, driving across the country. Chance—or fate—led them straight to Sanna’s orchard.

Isaac’s helping hands are much appreciated at the apple farm, even more when Sanna’s father is injured in an accident. As Sanna’s formerly simple life becomes increasingly complicated, she finds solace in unexpected places—friendship with young Sebastian and something more deliciously complex with Isaac—until an outside threat infiltrates the farm.

Throughout the story, even as some threads do meander to nowhere, the gradual connection between Isaac and Sanna, influenced by their friendship and her relationship with Bass the importance of family ties and histories comes to the fore: with good and bad secrets and issues revealed and worked through, Gently winding to a conclusion with atmosphere, emotion and a sense of honest appreciation of the life lived on the orchard allow readers to curl up as if with a warm blanket and warm cider (or an apple cider donut), enjoying every moment.

He’s won the hearts of millions. But is he willing to lose his?

I met the president’s son when we were both young. Matthew Hamilton was handsome, polished, and intelligent. I’d never met a guy like him.

He promised me that he’d never run for president. I promised that if he did, I’d be by his side.

Three terms later, an invitation to join Matthew Hamilton’s campaign is the most exhilarating opportunity I’ve ever experienced. I’m determined to make a difference; he is determined to win.

Focused on his goal, Matt is steadfast, ruthless, and disarming. All eyes are on him and his popularity is surging. But soon, the next possible president of the United States is possessing me in more ways than one—and despite the risks, I’m helpless to resist.

We’re stealing touches, stealing moments, and stealing away at night. But our chemical connection is quickly becoming dangerously combustive, putting not only my heart, but Matt’s chance at the presidency on the line.

Winning will take everything. Walking away will be the hardest thing of all.

Narration for this story is provided by Isabelle Gordon and John Lane, and the interactions, dialogue and emotional connection was clearly present as they gave us the gung-ho move forward and slightly calculated Matt juxtaposed against Charlotte’s hesitations and questions –which added to the tension that sparked between them, and made the sweeter connected moments even more pronounced. Clear definition of emotions, secondary character interactions and above all a presentation for each character that helped to solidify the author’s words and work, the story flew by and kept me engaged and intrigued.

Raven Black hunts evildoers for fun, but her vigilante justice isn’t the only reason she’s hiding from the law. Half Vampire, half Mage, she’s spent years living as a rogue to stay alive. When a Russian Shifter offers her a job in his covert organization hunting outlaws, dignity and a respectable career are finally within her grasp. The catch? Her new partner is Christian Poe – a smug, handsome Vampire whom she’d rather stake than go on a stakeout with.

They’re hot on the trail of a human killer who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. One misstep during her probationary period could jeopardize Raven’s chance at redemption, and her partner would love nothing more than to see her fail. Will Raven find the courage to succeed, or will she give in to her dark nature?

Narration for this book is provided by Nicole Poole, another new to me narrator, and one that I will be looking for in future audiobooks. She perfectly captured the rather edgy-trying to maintain my badass approach to life even when things aren’t fabulous attitude of Raven, and followed that task up neatly with distinct voices for the other characters that appeared, adding touches that gently lead the listener to form a near-instant impression of each as a black or white hat. Never hesitating or distracting from the story, her narration made this listen a pleasure. A wonderful introduction to a new series, with solid world-building, intrigue from characters and a clear purpose for the heroine with just enough left undone to continue, fans of urban fantasy that mixes character, content and action in equal measure are sure to enjoy this one.

Once upon a time a dragon dared to fall in love with the Queen of Hearts…

Zelena Hermosa wants only one thing, to be free. But for a morphling like her freedom will never be possible. Bought by a witch as a baby, she’s been raised in a household that knows no kindness or love. She’s a broken, dirty child the day she meets her prickly little dragon boy.

Ragoth Nur, heir to the throne of Drakon has just stolen a golden apple from Zeus’s favored orchard. In order to make sure he doesn’t have to face the wrath of the gods (but especially his mom) he runs off to wonderland to enjoy his treat and there bumps into the human girl who will change the course of his life forever.

There’s so much more to the Queen of Heart’s than the stories. So much more than the vindictive woman who shouts, “Off with her heads.” This is the true story of the woman, the legend, and the myth…

Can these two find a better version of themselves than the ones that send people running in fear? Winters answers that and many other questions in a story that is engaging, enchanting and full of hope and promise. Narration for this story is provided by Shiromi Arserio who presented the characters with flair, both as adults and children, with the perfect undertone of hurt, angst, flippancy and daring that was required to capture their personalities as the story moved along. Distinct tones and delivery made distinguishing the characters easy, and the variations in tone revealed moments of reflection, bravado or quiet conversation clearly. Not overworking dialogue, she presented the back and forth with flair, and never missed a beat, keeping the story flowing nicely to the end. A solid performance from this new to me narrator.

The epic finale to the New York Times bestselling How to Train Your Dragon series!
The Doomsday of Yule has arrived, and the future of dragonkind lies in the hands of one boy with nothing to show, but everything to fight for. Hiccup’s quest is clear… But can he end the rebellion? Can he prove himself to be king? Can he save the dragons? The stakes have never been higher, as the very fate of the Viking world hangs in the balance!

In this final book, the older Hiccup is recounting his days as a young Viking and telling of the final showdown for supremacy or coexistence between humans and dragons.  Oh there are tears as we lose a favored friend, see Hiccup’s ability to explain and have others see things his way, and get moments of brilliance from Toothless.  With Camicazi and Fishlegs, a mystery around the crowning of Hiccup or Alvin, and the ending that was just as one would expect, the story was intriguing, and did bring its fair share of tears.Narration is by David Tennant, and whether you are a child or an adult, his performance is personified by easily recognized characters, smooth and precise delivery and an ability to evoke the subtle emotional context that just enhances but never overwhelms the words. From Scots to Welsh, the sibilant S from Toothless, the nasal tones of Alvin or even the befuddlement of Hiccup and his friends at several moments, you feel them all, and know just why they feel that way.  A wonderful performance that elevates the stories, adding interest for adults and children. Perhaps Cowell could have made some different editorial decisions early in the book, and the oft-repeated messages do have a tendency to feel overly emphasized. But, in the grand scheme, a children’s book that manages to deliver messages that are felt and incorporated by action and deeds of the characters speaks louder and longer, and Cowell did deliver that in spades.

    My top audiobooks are:
    1) Reasonable Doubt by Whitney G.
    2) Fishers Light by Tara Sivec
    3) Heaven & Hell by Kristen Ashley
    4) El Diablo by M. Robinson
    5) Mister O by Lauren Blakely (The whole series really! =D )
Thanks for the post and the chance to win!

    • the only one on there I recognize is Kristen Ashley — and I’ve got a couple of her books to read – but nothing in audio… for me it’s almost (now) all about the narrator and their performance for me – but I’ve got a few more to check out. Thanks and good luck.

    • I got hooked on her Real series – partway in – and wanted to start one from the start – her stuff is fun and clever and you always know what you get with her books – perfect escape. Good luck!

Gaele, I was going to respond to your response to me, but my comment seems to have disappeared. My favorite to read – in any form – is PNR/urban fantasy. Some of my favorites in audio are Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels series, Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling and Guild Hunters series, Dianne Duvall’s Immortal Guardians series, and Patricia Briggs Mercy Thompson series.

    • I have it – but you put your address in so I hid that comment – my associate reviewer here is a Nalini Singh fan – I’ve only started the Psy-CHangeling series – Have you tried Rebecca Zanetti’s Dark Protectors (Karen White is awesome in narration for this) and her Sin Brothers is a good one – even though I’m only starting in on that one.

  3. Janie McGaugh

I’ve read almost all Rebecca Zanetti’s Dark Protectors books and all her Realm Enforcers books but haven’t listened to them on audio, yet. I intend to do so, however.

    • For me – ANYTHING that Karen White narrates is a MUST – just like Sebastian York, Grace Grant, Elizabeth Louise, Jason Carpenter and Time Gerard Reynolds. I also like Laura Jennings and when I can find a title with David Tennant or Davina Porter – I’m all in as well…

  4. my favorite EVER is: Ready Player One, with narrator Wil Wheaton.
hey, something didn’t work for entry 1 for me, to enter my full mailing address. i was trying to type over your template but nothing was happening. I clicked and it did count my entry!! so just sent you an email, as I can’t seem to find you on twitter nor facebook.
if there are links here, they are quite hidden. i actually found you on fb, but no post since last year

  5. I recently listened to Mr. President and Commander In Chief and enjoyed them both. The Crossbreed series comes highly recommended, I need to get to it!

    • I love Katy Evans audios -now I have to look about for more UF titles since I’m really liking Dannika Dark’s stuff
